THE LOVED WORLD FOUNDATION

Launched in January 2008, The Loved World Foundation’s mission is to help people through animals.

Our first program, "Another Chance for Love," brings together shelter dogs and prisoners to create another chance for both of them. Shelter dogs are brought to minimum- and medium-security prisons to be trained on a one-to-one basis by inmates with whom they also live.

Before the inmates get to play-train the dogs, they are taught behavioral theories (basic psychology), which give them the tools to understand behavior and communicate effectively without having to resort to violence.

The inmates are then taught "The Loved Dog --- the playful non-aggressive way of teaching dogs good behavior," which is based on Tamar Geller's bestselling book by the same name.

After six weeks, the dogs are certified as "A Loved Dog" and are available for adoption by the public. Certification as "A Loved Dog" indicates that dog has consistently good behavior. The dogs have been trained, socialized and tested in more situations than most pets.

Once the inmates are released, some will have the opportunity to work for The Loved Dog™ center as dog trainers. The released men and women have a chance to reinvent the direction of their lives by sharing and contributing their knowledge and compassion with society--- earning newfound respect as dog experts, which creates a circle of love!

Currently the program is offered at minimum-security prisons in the San Diego area but we have plans to expand the program and open more training centers. The dogs who excel in the program will be promoted to assistance dogs for the physically disabled.

The first group of inmates from this program graduated at the end of February, 2008, and all the dogs they've worked so hard to train have already found loving homes. The dogs were united with their new families on Saturday March 1st.
