AnimalRadio.Com interview with Tamar Geller - Saturday, January 3rd, 2009 (Show 474.)
Tamar Geller discusses puppy mills and explains that while she was training
Oprah Winfrey's dogs, she educated Oprah in her kitchen about puppy
mills. This was after Oprah purchased three Golden Retrievers from a
so-called breeder. Oprah thought that since she was not going to a
pet store, and went to a farm environment instead, it was not
a puppy mill. Unfortunately, Oprah later learned that it was a puppy
mill, which mass-produced all of their puppies. One of the three
puppies obtained by Oprah happened to be very sick, and Oprah had
to get up in the middle of the night to nurse this puppy every
couple of hours. When Oprah called the breeder, she was told to
bring the dog back and they would give her another one, as if it
were a piece of furniture. Click Here to Read More

MEDIA ALERT: City of Los Angeles Mandatory Spay & Neuter Bill for Dogs & Cats is Now Enforceable.
The City Council of Los Angeles approved a new law requiring all dogs and cats in the city to be spayed or neutered after the age of four months, with some specific exemptions allowed. The Mayor signed the ordinance on February 26, 2008, making Los Angeles the national leader in efforts to humanely decrease the number of pets abandoned and euthanized each year.
On Thursday October 2nd at 10am, Tamar will be joining Bob Barker at a special celebrity press conference to announce the ordinance, why it is important, and what pet owners can do. The law was effective in April, but there was a grace period until October 1, 2008 for enforcement. Violations are subject to three levels of increasing fines, starting at $100, to urge compliance. After the third violation, non-compliance is a misdemeanor.
